French Parisian 19th Century Papier Mache Shop Dummy circa 1890

This is a rather elegant Parisian papier mâché shop dummy, dating from the late 19th century. The Dummy stands on an ebonised tripod, which is fully adjustable in height, circa 1890. This example is of the early papier mâché construction; later examples were manufactured in wax for a more life like appearance before both types finally fell out of use as plaster became the material of choice from the 1920s onward.
